BOSTON – The Salisbury University volleyball team finished out the UMass Boston Invitational on Saturday with wins over Western Connecticut State University 3-2 (12-25, 16-25, 25-17, 25-17, 15-11) and Middlebury College 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-19).

After dropping the first two sets, while hitting a combined -.007 percent in the games, the Sea Gulls offense hit its stride in the final three sets, averaging a .353 hitting percentage, including a .476 percentage in the fifth.

Senior Julie Poston paced the Gulls with a career-high 22 kills, needing only 37 attack attempts to reach the total and hitting .541 percent.

A trio of sophomores chipped in for the SU hitting, as Katie Stouffer finished second on the squad with nine kills, and Jordan Lawson and Shannon Russell both added seven, each.

Freshman Alexis Howatt tallied 33 assists to lead the setting, and senior Michelle Meehan notched a career-high 31 digs in the match. Russell and Stouffer both had double-digit digs, as well, with 11 and 10, respectively.

Salisbury 3, Middlebury 0

Ending the weekend with a three-set sweep of Middlebury, Poston continued her big day with a team-high 16 kills, while Stouffer followed with 13.

Howatt and Meehan continued to lead the team with 22 assists and 19 digs, respectively, and Stouffer reached double-digit digs again with 11.

The Sea Gulls enjoyed an efficient match, tallying 44 total kills with only nine attack errors and eight total blocks with only one blocking error.

Salisbury will continue on the road for its next match, traveling to Juniata College for the ASICS Invitational, starting the weekend against Juniata on Friday at 4 p.m.
