Swimming picks up two CAC wins at Frostburg

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Salisbury University swimming teams went on the road to take on Frostburg State University and both came away with their second Capital Athletic Conference victories for the year. The men won 166-96 while the women also won by a large margin with a final score of 185-77.

Men

Will Gough led the way for the Gulls as he was the lone member to notch multiple first-place finishes. Gough edged out teammate Okan Eyigor in the 50-yard freestyle, coming in at 24.95 seconds for the win. He then went on to take first in the 200-yard individual medley, coming in two seconds ahead of the Frostburg swimmer who took second.

Conor Johnston had an exceptional day for Salisbury as he took home first place by almost a full five seconds in the 400-yard freestyle, finishing in 4:49.81. Johnston also picked up a second-place finish in the 800-meter freestyle, a race that freshman Peter Moyer dominated.

In the 800-meter freestyle, Moyer won by a 23 second margin (9:30.06) as he continues to impress.

Stephen Arcidiacono had a two second win in the 50-meter butterfly for the Sea Gulls, whileJeremy Powell finished second in the race.

In the 100-meter freestyle, Salisbury got the top-two spots as Jake Blazer finished at 55.69 seconds, followed closely by freshman Andrew Ward (58.46 seconds).

Women

The women's squad had consistent, strong performances from all of their swimmers as they won by 108 points.

Layne Gable finished the day with two first-place finishes as she was able to win the 200-meter butterfly by an incredible 10 second margin, in a race that the Gulls swept the top-three places. She then won the 200-meter individual medley, as teammate Nikky Marders was just behind her.

Following the opening 200-meter medley relay that the team of Madison TinusBizu BaldinazzoVictoria Radcliffe, and Gable took first in, Claudia Guay pulled out a victory in the 800-meter freestyle (10:21.83) with an eight second margin of victory.

Maggie Deering had a great meet as she came away with a victory in the 50-meter backstroke (34.79) and picked up second in the 200-meter backstroke - a race that Hannah Schlegel took first in (2:37.39).

In the 400-meter freestyle, Nicki Schult touched the wall at 5:03.20 and saw the next swimmer come in 14 seconds later.

Andria Moyer rounded out the victories on the day as she won the 50-meter butterfly in 32.19 seconds, followed closely by freshman Nicole Charkowick.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday, November 11th as they take a break from CAC action and travel up Maryland's Eastern Shore to take on Washington College at 5:30 p.m.
