Sea Gulls fall to Gettysburg 12-6

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 7 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team fell on Saturday afternoon 12-6 to Gettysburg College at Sea Gull Stadium.

The Sea Gulls were put in a hole early, as Gettysburg took a 5-0 lead in the first quarter, holding Salisbury scoreless through the first 15 minutes.

After the Bullets went up 6-0 halfway through the second quarter, Salisbury's offense got going, scoring three-straight goals to cut the lead.

Juniors James Burton and Thomas Cirillo combined for the first two, as Burton scored the first, taking a pass from Cirillo on the left side of the crease, curling around, and scoring high. Less than a minute later, Burton returned the favor, feeding Cirillo at the right wing for a rip into the top-left corner of the cage.

Senior Kyle Goss cut the lead to 6-3 with 1:21 left in the half, curling around the right side of the crease and netting a diving finish past the Bullets' keeper.

Gettysburg scored once more to take a 7-3 lead at halftime. At the break, Salisbury was leading in shots 23-19, while Gettysburg had won 7-of-11 faceoffs.

Just over a minute into the third quarter, senior Mike Kane took a pass from senior Sean Fitzgerald in the middle and scored from five yards out to make the score 7-4.

Neither team scored over the next 10 minutes, but Salisbury looked to be gaining momentum with its next score, bringing the Gulls within two, as Cirillo netted his team-leading second goal, planting another shot from the right wing into the top-left corner of the cage.

That is the closest Salibury would get, as the Bullets pulled off a 3-0 run in the final minute of the third quarter and scored the first two goals of the final period to take a 12-5 lead.

Sophomore Carson Kalama scored the Sea Gulls' final goal, but Gettysburg was able to run out the clock and take the victory.

Salisbury returns to Sea Gull Stadium on Sunday, March 8 for its next game, hosting Ohio Wesleyan University in the annual showdown between the two schools. The opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
