FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University women's volleyball team was swept 3-0 on Saturday afternoon by nationally ranked No. 16 University of Mary Washington. It was the second nationally ranked team the Sea Gulls have played in less than a 24 hour span.

The Eagles (20-1, 4-0 Capital Athletic Conference) pulled out the first set in an epic win by two, 29-27, to take the early 1-0 advantage. Mary Washington went on to claim sets two and three by scores of 25-9 and 25-18 to earn the CAC win.

Katie Stouffer led all Sea Gulls (14-6, 3-1 CAC) tallying 12 kills while committing only three errors throughout the match. Teammate Sydney Davis finished the match tied for second most kills on the team with seven while posting a team-high hitting percentage of .267. Shannon Russell totaled a match-high 19 digs while Davis totaled a match-best five blocks.

Overall, Salisbury recorded 33 kills but trailed Mary Washington who totaled 45 of its own. The Eagles also outhit the Sea Gulls .250 to .131. Salisbury did edge Mary Washington in digs, 68-59.

Salisbury returns to action on October 14 for a Friday night match against Marymount (Va.) University at home starting at 7 p.m.
