Sea Gulls start week with 13-5 win at Stevenson

Box Score

OWINGS MILL, Md. – The No. 11 Salisbury University baseball team earned a win in its first game of a three-game road trip on Monday afternoon at Stevenson University, 13-5.

Senior Jake Dmiterchik and junior Pete Grasso continued to lead the Sea Gull offense, combining for six hits and four RBI. Over the past four games, Grasso is batting .737 with 14 hits and 14 runs batted in, while Dmiterchik is hitting .500 with 10 hits and 13 RBI.

Salisbury got off to a fast start in the game, knocking in two runs in the top of the first inning. Senior Kyle Goodwin led off the game with a double and came home just a batter later, as senior Alex Lipman singled to center. Dmiterchik tallied his first RBI in the inning, scoring Lipman on a single into right field for the 2-0 lead.

The Mustangs were only able to get one run back in the bottom of the third inning, before the Gulls were able to open the game up in the top of the fourth. Sophomore Connor Reeves only allowed two runs in six innings pitched for his third win of the season, striking out four in the contest.

In the fourth, the Sea Gulls only needed one hit to send five runners across the plate, taking advantage of three walks, two wild pitches, one hit by pitch, and a Mustang error. Sophomore Brad Keith came in on one of the wild pitches, before junior Tom LaBriola walked with the bases loaded. Dmiterchik then drove in his second RBI on a fielder's choice, and Grasso capped the inning, smacking a triple to right to drive in both of his runs. Grasso went 4-for-4 to lead the team in hits.

Goodwin drove in the first of his two RBI in the fifth on a single up the middle to push Salisbury's lead to 8-1. He finished the game tied with Grasso, Dmiterchik, and freshman Jack Barry with the two runs batted in, while also scoring two runs and going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Stevenson tacked on its second run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Salisbury offense continued to cushion its lead in the seventh. Three-straight doubles by Grasso, Barry, and Keith tallied the first two runs. Senior Mike LaBriola came in to pinch hit, ripping a triple to center to score Keith, before coming around to score on a Mustang error.

The four-run frame gave the Gulls a 12-2 lead, and the team's final run came in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Barry.

Junior Brandon Humbertson pitched the final three innings in the game to earn his first save, recording six strikeouts.

The Sea Gulls return to action for game two of their road trip tomorrow, Tuesday, March 29 at Washington (Md.) College, completing the teams' two-game season series; the first pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
