Shockley's gem leads Sea Gulls to 7-0 win over Shoremen

Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The No. 12 Salisbury University baseball team earned its second road win in as many days on Tuesday afternoon, 7-0, at Washington (Md.) College.

The teams combined for only three hits through the first three innings, with senior Connor Shockley only allowing one of those hits.

Senior Jake Dmiterchik picked up the Gulls' third hit to lead off the top of the fourth with a single through the middle. Two-straight Shoremen errors allowed Salisbury to score two in the inning to take the first lead of the game. Sophomore Brad Keith picked up an RBI on the second run, as junior Pete Grasso came across on the second error.

After Shockley held Washington hitless in the fourth for the third-consecutive inning, the Gulls tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth.

Senior Kyle Goodwin reached after getting hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a single by junior Tom LaBriola. Dmiterchik drove home Goodwin on a sacrifice fly, before Grasso singled, and LaBriola came around to score on another Washington error on the play, pushing the lead to 4-0.

Freshman Jack Barry singled to start the sixth, setting up the Gulls' third-straight scoring inning. He eventually came around on a sacrifice fly off the bat of senior Alex Lipman.

Shockley continued his dominance, allowing only two hits over the final four innings on the way to his second win of the season. He scattered four hits and struck out seven in a complete-game shutout.

Salisbury added its final two runs in the eighth inning. LaBriola ripped a two RBI single into left field to score Lipman and Goodwin on the play.

Grasso led the team with three hits in the game, while LaBriola's two RBI led the way. Goodwin paced the Gulls with two runs scored.

Salisbury completes its three-game road trip on Wednesday, March 30 at Wesley College in a Capital Athletic Conference single-game matchup; the game is set for 3:30 p.m.
