Men's lacrosse cruises past Wesley in CAC play, 28-4

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md.- The No. 1 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team hosted Wesley College on Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference play and took down the Wolverines, 28-4, to move to 12-0 on the season and 4-0 in CAC play.

The Gulls got on the board early and often. The first marker came when James Burton got the ball at the top of the offensive zone and dodged over the top and slipped a pass down to Thomas Cirillo for his 99th career goal that he put in the top shelf less than two minutes into the game.

Less than a minute later, the Gulls connected on goals six seconds apart to go up 3-0 with 12:47 remaining in the opening quarter. First, Kalama tracked down a loose ball on its way out of bounds and hustled to stop the turnover and fed it to an open Garrett Reynolds. The sophomore got the ball near the top of the box, took a large crow hop, and let it go from 15 yards out, blowing it past the keeper.

On the ensuing faceoff, Duncan Campbell won it forward to himself then pushed it ahead to Nathan Blondino; Blondino found Kalama on the crease and he cashed it for his second point in six seconds.

Blondino finished the game tied for the game high with seven points as he scored twice and added five assists.

Wesley put a stop to Salisbury's quick start and added a tally of its own with 5:19 left in the quarter. However, The Gulls kicked back into gear and put in five goals in the remaining five minutes of the quarter to cap the first quarter at 8-1.

With 2:54 left in the first, Cirillo put home a Blondino feed for his 100th career goal. Cirillo ended the game with six goals and one assist for seven points. The six goals is a career high for the senior All-American.

While the first quarter was finished, the Gulls' goal streak was not, scoring six goals in a row during the second quarter.

Holding Wesley to only one goal in the first half, the Salisbury defense allowed just three shots in the first 30 minutes. Colin Reymann got the start in net and stopped two of the shots fired his way in the opening half. Reymann picked up the win on the day as he only played the first half, and moved to 2-0 on the season.

At halftime, Salisbury led 14-1. Reynolds went off in the first half, scoring on his first five shots to get his career high in goals by the end of second quarter.

Salisbury outscored the Wolverines 14-3 in the second half, highlighted by four first-career goals. First Aaron Leeds nabbed an unassisted marker, followed by T.J. Logue, Luke Reeder, and Kevin Bartenfelter all getting their first-career tallies.

Campbell made his presence felt at the X, going 12-for-13 on the day. The junior ended the day with a game-high seven groundballs. Logue (5-for-8) and Brooks Eibner (10-15) also contributed strong days at the faceoff dot.

Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, April 2 as it continues its conference schedule on the road at Marymount (Va.) University.
