Gulls protect the nest on Senior Day as Stephenson earns 100th win with women

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams took on the Seahawks from St. Mary's College of Maryland for the teams' Senior Day on Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference play, as both teams took home victories. The men won, 148-112, and the women also won, 156-104.

The victory on the women's side Saturday afternoon gave Head Coach Jill Stephenson her 100th career win for the maroon and gold.

Men

Senior Okan Eyigor led the men's side with three victories on the afternoon. Eyigor's first win came in the 100-meter backstroke, posting a time of 59.33 seconds. Eyigor continued his winning ways throughout the afternoon as he brought home another victory in the 200-meter backstroke, recording a time of 2:18.94. Eyigor's final win came in the 100-meter butterfly as he notched a time of 1:00.17.

Eyigor alongside fellow teammates Conor JohnstonStephen Arcidiacono, and Jake Blazer got the men's side off to a promising start on the day as they touched the wall first in the 200-meter medley relay, posting a time of 1:50.71.

Sophomore Peter Moyer also brought home two victories for the Sea Gulls on the afternoon. Moyer's first win came during the 200-meter freestyle, recording a time of 1:58.08. Moyer made a statement again later in the afternoon in the 400-meter freestyle as he got out to a commanding 10-second lead and never looked back, posting a time of 4:20.02.

Moyer alongside teammates Arcidiacono, Blazer and Andrew Ward capped off the day for the men's side as they brought home the final points of the day for the men's side in thrilling fashion during the 200-meter relay, notching a time of 1:42.10, just .29 seconds ahead of fellow Gulls James, Scott SchirmerMax Lucas and Mike Caulfield.

Senior Bill James also earned himself a victory on Senior Day as he touched the wall during the 800-meter freestyle, recording a time of 9:30.60.

Women

Senior Victoria Radcliffe led the women's side with three victories on Saturday afternoon. Radcliffe got the women's side off to a promising start as she touched the wall first in the 200-meter freestyle. Radcliffe got off to a nine-second head start and never relinquished the lead, posting a time of 2:13.76 and the first nine points for the women's side. Radcliffe got her second victory in the 100-meter freestyle as she recorded a time of 1:01.69. Radcliffe's dominating presence continued into the afternoon as she recorded a 20-second lead in her final win of the day in the 400-meter individual medley, notching a time of 5:22.20.

Radcliffe was also a big help alongside Emma Tarnosky, Layne Gable and Bizu Baldinazzo in the 200-meter medley relay as they earned the first points on the day for the Sea Gulls, posting a time of 2:08.86.

Gable also shined for the Sea Gulls as she brought home two individual victories on the afternoon. Gable's first win of the day came during the 200-meter butterfly after a commanding 10-second lead over her opponent to record a time of 2:36.50. Gable earned her second win during the 100-meter butterfly, posting a time of 1:09.05.

Radcliffe helped finish the day on a high note as Tarnosky, Gable, Baldinazzo and Rachel Lisk brought home Salisbury's final victory in the 200-meter freestyle, recording a time of 2:00.04.

Tarnosky also earned a victory for the Gulls in the 100-meter backstroke as she posted a time of 1:10.82.

The freshman class showed up for the maroon and gold as they ensured a positive future for the Sea Gulls as both Angela Barzanti and Shelby Steere brought home wins for Salisbury. Barazanti touched the wall first in the 400-meter freestyle, notching a time of 4:56.26, while Steere earned first-place honors in the 200-meter backstroke, recording a time of 2:33.76.

The Sea Gulls are back in action February 17 as they head to St. Mary's for the Capital Athletic Conference Championships.
