Sea Gulls' win streak snapped at Neumann

Box Score

ASTON, Pa. – The Salisbury University baseball team took to the road for its second game away from Salisbury of the season traveling to Neumann University. The Sea Gulls were no hit by Neumann falling by the final score of 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon, snapping their five-game winning streak.

Salisbury (7-5) struck first in the top of the first inning when Pete Grasso reached on an error then stole third and ended up scoring on the play due to an errant throw by the Neumann (3-4) catcher Cody McNair making the score 1-0.

Trailing 3-1 in the top of the sixth inning the Sea Gulls had an opportunity to get back in the game but were unable to take advantage. After Justin Meekins, Tom LaBriola, and Jack Barry all managed to get on base Simon Palenchar came to the plate with bases loaded and two outs. He was unable to capitalize however, grounding out to the pitcher to end the threat and the inning.

The Knights opened the game up in the bottom half of the inning, plating three runs to take a 6-1 lead, the eventual final score. A two-run single and walk drove in the three runs. Overall, nine different Neumann batters came to the plate in the inning.

The Sea Gull offense was unable to get into a rhythm going three up and three down on four separate occasions throughout the game. Salisbury also stranded five runners on base, three of which were in the top of the sixth inning.

Brad Keith took the loss going five innings allowing just two earned runs on five hits while striking out two. Dillon Waters and Logan Manz were solid in their relief appearances for the maroon and gold. Waters entered the game in the bottom of the sixth with bases loaded and recorded the final two outs of the inning allowing no hits or runs. Manz, who pitched the final two innings of the game, allowed just one hit in six batters faced while also recording one strikeout.

Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, March 11, when it opens Capital Athletic Conference play hosting St. Mary's College of Maryland in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
