Sea Gulls split home finale versus Saints

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams held their final home swim meet of the season against Capital Athletic Conference rival Marymount (Va.) University. The men's team was victorious, defeating the Saints, 132-69, while the women's team fell, 133-70.

The teams' six seniors — Stephen Arcidiacono, Bill James, Ali Johnston, Conor Johnston, Paulina Kozorosky, and Matt Morris — were each recognized prior to the start of the meet as a part of Senior Day festivities.

Men

The men's team had its best home meet of the season, earning a total of five individual first-place finishes, and two first-place team relay finishes.

Arcidiacono, Richard Baker, Kyle Russell, and Jake Ryan combined to finish first in the 200-meter medley relay, with a time of 1:53.46.

Peter Moyer earned a first-place finish in the 800-meter freestyle, capturing a time of 9:28.87.

Ryan finished ahead of the competition in the 200-meter freestyle, recording a time of 2:06.52.

Baker finished first in the 100-meter backstroke for the third week in a row, with a time of 1:02.71.

James captured his first-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle, with a time of4:35.21.

Russell finished the men's individual events with a first-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke, recording a time of 1:10.19

Andrew Ward, Ryan, Moyer, and Johnston combined to close out the afternoon with a first-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle relay, capturing a time of 1:40.19.

Women

The women's team started off its day by finishing in second place in the 200-meter medley relay. Emma Tarnosky, Olivia Edsall, Angela Barzanti, and Jordyn Rowe combined to finish with a time of 2:16.30.

Tarnosky earned an individual first-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke, with a time of 1:09.59.

Barzanti captured two individual second-place finishes to round out her afternoon. The first came in the 800-meter freestyle, where she earned a time of 10:24.33. Barzanti also finished second in the 400-meter freestyle, with a time of 4:59.32.

Rowe also had two individual second-place finishes. Her first was in the 200-meter freestyle, where she earned a time of 2:23.96. Rowe also finished the 100-meter freestyle in second place, with a time of 1:06.94.

Edsall also captured an individual second-place finish for her team in the 100-meter breaststroke, with a time of 1:24.75.

The teams will wrap up their regular seasons in two weeks when they travel to CAC rival St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday, February 3. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
