Men's basketball overcomes 13-point deficit to down Saints, 74-62

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team stretched its winning streak to six games overcoming a 13-point halftime deficit to down Marymount (Va.) University 74-62.

It was a tale of two halves for the Sea Gulls (13-5, 9-2 CAC) as they tallied a 46-point second half behind a 51.9 percent shooting mark from the field. Defensively the Gulls were exceptional throughout the final frame holding the Saints (6-12, 5-6 CAC) to just 21 points. Salisbury limited Marymount to just a 33.3 percent clip from the field while also forcing 15 turnovers.   

Four different Salisbury players tallied double-digit scoring nights led by Chad Barcikowski's 17 points. Barcikowski helped in the Salisbury comeback netting 15 points over the final 20 minutes of action.

The game saw three ties in the second half before Mike Ward, who finished the night with 12 points, gave the Gulls the lead for good with 7:29 left to play. Barcikowski pushed the lead to 61-54 moments later on his only three-pointer of the evening.

Overall, after the game saw its final tie Salisbury outscored Marymount 20-8 over the final seven and a half minutes of play to secure the victory and its sixth straight Capital Athletic Conference win.

Johnny Fierstein and J.P. Krotulis also posted double-digit performances netting 13 and 10 points respectively. They combined to go 8-of-13 from the field while Fierstein posted a 66.6 percent mark from behind the arc.

Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, January 27 when it begins a three-game home stand starting with the University of Mary Washington. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
