ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team traveled to St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday for its first conference matchup of the season and walked away with a 59-51 victory.

Salisbury (5-1, 1-0 Capital Athletic Conference) came out strong in the first quarter, forcing the Seahawks (1-5, 0-1 CAC) to turn the ball over seven times and go 1-for-12 from the floor through the first 10 minutes. Kaylee Otlowski led the way with four points and five rebounds to help give the Sea Gulls the early 13-8 lead.

St. Mary's improved in the second quarter, shooting 36.4 percent from the field and closing its deficit to only three, but Salisbury went on a 6-0 run over the final two minutes of the half to carry a 27-18 lead into the locker room.

The Sea Gulls picked up where they left off by opening the third quarter with a 8-0 run through the first 2:20 of play that included baskets from Otlowski, Amber Onyekwere and Kylie Webb. Down 15 with five to go in the third, the Seahawks went on a 12-2 run of their own to shrink the Sea Gull lead back to 39-34.

An Onyekwere layup with just over eight minutes to go pushed Salisbury's lead up to 48-38, but St. Mary's continued to battle, pulling within four with 6:30 to play. A 12-5 run over the final five minutes, led by Kaylyn French's five points, closed the game for the Sea Gulls, who held on to win their first Capital Athletic Conference game of the season, 59-51.

Otlowski recorded the first double-double of her career, scoring 11 points and pulling down an impressive 15 rebounds. Megan Konig led all scorers with 14 points, while Onyekwere paced the team with four assists.

The team returns home on Wednesday, December 5 to host the Catholic University of America. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
