ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team went down to the wire with St. Mary's College of Maryland, dropping a close 61-58 game in Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night.

Salisbury (12-10, 7-8 CAC) trailed 56-51 with just over three minutes to play before making a run, culminating with a corner three by Mary McDonagh to give the Sea Gulls a 58-56 lead with 37 seconds remaining. The three was the only one on the night for the maroon and gold.

St. Mary's (7-14, 3-12 CAC) countered with a three-point play of its own to regain the lead, 59-58. Salisbury had a chance to take the lead back but was unable to convert a layup before forcing to foul, which gave the Seahawks a 61-58 advantage. Salisbury had one final chance but could not connect on a three-point attempt as time expired.

Kaylyn French nearly recorded a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Paige Bryce provided a scoring boost off the bench with 10 points. Rachel Ryan helped Salisbury outrebound St. Mary's 39-32 with nine rebounds of her own to go along with seven points.

The Sea Gulls outshot the Seahawks on the night with a 40.0 percent clip from the field compared to St. Mary's 38.8 percent. The Seahawks, however, made five more three-pointers and converted eight more times at the free-throw line.

Salisbury continues its three-game road trip at York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday, February 10 at 1 p.m.
