Second half comeback leads women's basketball past York

YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team erased a 15-point second half deficit to defeat York College of Pennsylvania 64-61 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

York (15-8, 11-5 CAC) took a 31-15 lead midway through the second quarter before the Sea Gulls inched within seven points shortly before halftime. The Spartans built their lead back up to 15 with just over five minutes to play in the third quarter however, leading Salisbury 49-34.

Salisbury (13-10, 8-8 CAC) went on a 12-0 run at the end of the third period, getting five points from senior Mary McDonagh in the run, to pull within three points, 49-46. The Sea Gulls took their first lead since the beginning of the first quarter on a Morgan Grubb jumper, putting the maroon and gold ahead 59-58 with 4:43 remaining.

Salisbury held the lead the rest of the way, knocking down three free throws to go along with a Kaylyn French layup. French recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

McDonagh paced the Sea Gulls with a season-high 19 points to go along with seven assists and five rebounds. McDonagh knocked down four of Salisbury's six three-pointers on the afternoon, as the Sea Gulls went 6-for-13 from beyond the arc.

Rachel Ryan and Grubb helped Salisbury outrebound York 52-41 on the day with 10 and eight rebounds, respectively. Ryan chipped in nine points while Grubb added 10, with the two combining to shoot 8-for-13, good for 61.5 percent, from the floor. The Sea Gulls shot an efficient 41.9 percent from the field while holding the Spartans to just 31.5 percent shooting.

Salisbury concludes its three-game road trip on Wednesday, February 14 at Wesley College. The Sea Gulls and Wolverines are scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m.
