Sea Gulls shut out Shorewomen in second half for 16-4 victory

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The No. 5 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team traveled to take on Eastern Shore rival Washington College on Saturday afternoon, picking up a 16-4 non-conference victory to remain undefeated.

The two teams went back-and-forth in the first half before Salisbury (5-0) took control in the second frame. The Sea Gulls struck first on an unassisted goal from Alissa Talbert, but Washington College (3-1) responded, as it did for nearly the entire first half. Allie Hynson put the Sea Gulls back on top five minutes later on a feed from Lindsey Wagner to make it 2-1.

The Shorewomen answered less than a minute after, but Dana King scored her first of the day on a free position shot to regain the lead. The Shorewomen scored again to make it 3-3 with just over eight minutes remaining in the half, but Salisbury was finally able to break the back-and-forth with two straight goals.

Krissy Murphy and King tallied back-to-back markers to give the Sea Gulls a 5-3 lead, with King's goal coming on another free position shot. Washington College added another to pull within one, 5-4, but a Gabrielle Mongno goal from King with 1:16 remaining in the half put the Sea Gulls up 6-4 going into the break.

Salisbury shut down the Shorewomen in the second half, scoring all 10 goals. Hynson notched her second of the day to open the floodgates 2:33 in, while King added her third of the afternoon.

Taylor Poore and Emma Skoglund each scored three times in the second half, while Talbert tallied her second and Lindsey Wagner added another.

The Sea Gulls outshot the Shorewomen 16-8 in the second half and 30-27 in the game, with Gianna Falcone making 11 saves on 15 shots on goal to earn the win. Falcone posted a 73.3 save percentage in just over 50 minutes of action to move to 4-0 on the season.

Salisbury returns home to face No. 22 The College at Brockport on Friday, March 16 at 3 p.m.
