Box Score

BRADENTON, Fla. – The fifth ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team defeated No. 13 William Smith College 12-8 Monday at IMG Academy, with four different players scoring at least two goals.

William Smith (3-3) struck first on a free position shot just 38 seconds in, but Lindsey Wagner got Salisbury (7-0) on the board shortly after off an assist from Dana King.

Courtney Fegan made it 2-1 Sea Gulls just 39 seconds later on one of Alissa Talbert's three helpers on the afternoon. King notched her lone goal of the afternoon to put Salisbury up two before the Herons briefly made it a one-goal game. Emma Skoglund pushed the lead back to two, 4-2, on one of her team-high three goals.

Two goals from Gianna Demato and one from Gabrielle Mongno made it four straight for the maroon and gold, extending the lead to 7-2. William Smith got two back, but Mongno added her second of the day to make it 8-4 going into the half.

The four-goal halftime lead would stand, as each team tallied four goals in the second half. Skoglund added two more, while Fegan notched her second and Emily McQuay scored on a free position shot for the Sea Gulls.

Gianna Falcone made nine saves on 17 shots on goal to earn the win. Allie Hynson led the defensive charge in front of Falcone, causing two turnovers, winning six draw controls, and scooping up three groundballs. As a team, Salisbury forced 16 William Smith turnovers while holding the Herons to just 8-of-17 on clears.

Salisbury, now No. 3 following today's IWLCA poll, returns home to open Capital Athletic Conference play against No. 5 York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 24 at 1 p.m.
