Big second half leads women's lacrosse past No. 10 Franklin & Marshall 15-4

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – A 10-goal second half led the third ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team past No. 10 Franklin & Marshall, 15-4, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

Franklin & Marshall (6-3) got off to a quick start, scoring two goals in the opening four minutes. The Salisbury (10-0) defense clamped down, however, holding the Diplomats to just two goals the rest of the way. The Sea Gulls turned the Diplomats over 11 times while coming up with 13 draw controls to Franklin & Marshall's seven.

Courtney Fegan got the scoring started for the Sea Gulls with two goals, both of which came on assists from Alissa Talbert behind the net. Fegan and Talbert would connect for a third time later in the game for Fegan's team-high fourth goal of the day. Talbert notched a career-high six assists to go along with one goal in the game.

Allie Hynson, who came up with five draw controls, beat the goalie up high to make it 3-2 before the Diplomats answered to even the score at three. Lindsey Wagner, who finished with a hat trick, gave the Sea Gulls the lead for good after juking her defender and finding the bottom of the net with just under five minutes remaining in the half. Holly Bowers gave Salisbury a 5-3 lead on a free position shot before going into halftime.

Emma Skoglund scored her first of two goals on a feed from Talbert just 41 seconds into the second half, but Franklin & Marshall brought its deficit back to two, 6-4, minutes later. It would be the last goal of the game for the Diplomats, as Salisbury scored the final nine goals of the day, including two unassisted markers from Emily McQuay.

Salisbury held its third straight opponent to five goals or less as Gianna Falcone made 13 saves to earn the win, including eight in the second half.

The Sea Gulls are back in action on Saturday, March 31 at 11 a.m., as they host Southern Virginia University.
