Men's lacrosse suffers second straight overtime setback

Box Score

DELAWARE, Ohio – The No. 3 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team suffered its second consecutive loss in overtime, falling at Ohio Wesleyan University, 12-11. It is the first time since 2015 the Sea Gulls have lost back-to-back games when they fell to Gettysburg and Ohio Wesleyan in back-to-back games.

Salisbury (3-2) got off to a slow start scoring just three goals in the opening 30 minutes of action. The Battling Bishops (4-1) managed to take a 7-3 lead into the halftime break behind a four-goal first quarter in which they held the Gulls scoreless.

However, Salisbury battled back to level the score line at 7-7 behind two of Garrett Reynolds' five goals on the afternoon. Reynolds netted two goals in the third quarter, tallying both markers less than a minute apart to cut the deficit to just two.

Corey Gwin and Griffin Moroney tallied back-to-back markers midway through the third quarter to give Salisbury its first lead of the afternoon, 8-7. The lead did not last long though as Ohio Wesleyan retook the lead with just under two minutes to play in the quarter and brought a 9-8 lead into the final frame.

The final quarter was a back-and-forth battle between the two programs with the Sea Gulls outscoring the hosts 3-2 in the quarter. Gwin netted his second marker of the contest with over six minutes to play in regulation but that was all the scoring either team would manage through the end of regulation.

The Sea Gulls had four chances in overtime but were unable to capitalize on them as the Battling Bishops netted the game winner with less than a minute to play in overtime.

Salisbury returns to action on Wednesday, March 7 when it hosts Kenyon College. Face-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
