Sea Gulls defeat Wolverines to push win streak to nine games

Box Score

DOVER, Del. – The Salisbury University baseball team defeated Capital Athletic Conference rival Wesley College at Bob Reed Field on Tuesday afternoon, 14-0, to extend its win streak to nine games.

Justin Meekins singled through the left side of the infield to start the game before a sacrifice bunt, a throwing error, and a Jack Decker sacrifice fly allowed him to round the bases and score the first run of the game.

The Sea Gulls (19-7, 8-2 CAC) came alive in the third inning, tacking on another four runs to push their lead over the Wolverines (8-16, 2-8 CAC) to 5-0. Decker drove in Meekins once again, this time with a double through the left side of the infield. A groundout by Scott Ardoin in the following at-bat allowed Jack Barry to score from third base. An error by the Wesley third baseman allowed Decker to score the third run of the inning before a Will Gutekunst single to left field drove Jay Perry home for the final tally of the inning.

A Meekins solo home run in the sixth inning pushed the Salisbury lead to 7-0. The lead would double over the final three innings of the contest. Tyler Mayo and Jimmy Adkins each hit two-run singles as part of a five-run ninth inning.

Starting pitcher Austin Heenan increased his season win total to six with the victory. He allowed only one hit over seven scoreless innings, while collecting six strikeouts.

The Sea Gulls have a plus-68 run differential and have scored at least 11 runs in seven of their past nine games during their current winning streak.

The team travels to Washington (Md.) College on Wednesday, April 11 to take on the Shoremen. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
