Win streak reaches double digits as No. 24 Sea Gulls roll past Shoremen

Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Salisbury University Baseball team extended its win streak to 10 games on Wednesday afternoon when it defeated Washington College, 10-3, at Athey Park.

The No. 24 Sea Gulls (20-7) jumped to an early lead with a three-run third inning. Dillon Waters drove in Matt Padeway for the first run with a sacrifice fly to center field. Jack Barry then stepped to the plate in the following at-bat and finished his turn at the dish by driving a two-run home run over the left field fence.

The Shoremen (19-10) surrendered four more runs to the Sea Gulls in the fifth inning. Waters once again scored Padeway from third base, this time on a ground out to the right side of the infield. Jack Decker then drove Barry and Justin Meekins home two at-bats later with a double to right center field. Jay Perry capped of the inning by scoring Decker on a sacrifice fly to left field.

Washington would score three runs late in the game to avoid the shutout, but Salisbury matched them with three more of their own over the final four innings, to earn the 10-3 victory.

Starting pitcher Wes Whitlock picked up his second win of the season, tossing 6 and 1/3 innings. He struck out six batters while allowing only three hits and two earned runs.

Salisbury has scored at least 10 runs in eight of its 10 wins during the current winning streak, and has posted a run differential of plus-75 since its last loss on March 25.

The team returns home on Thursday, April 12 for a pivotal matchup against Capital Athletic Conference rival No. 5 Christopher Newport University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
