Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University softball team locked up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference tournament and ensured this would not be the final week of game action in Sea Gull Softball Stadium with a doubleheader sweep of York College of Pennsylvania on Friday afternoon.

Game 1: Salisbury 10, York 1 (5 inn.)

The Sea Gulls opened the game with a run in the first inning, getting things started with a single up the middle from LeAnne Collins and a walk by Dakotah Fraley. With one out, Brea Bishop walked to load the bases setting table for Kristen Yanarella who rolled an infield single to the left side for the 1-0 lead.

Salisbury extended the lead with a two-out rally in the second thanks to four-straight hits started by Collins and Fraley again, with Annie Pietanza coming up with an RBI single. and Bishop smashed a two-run double to right-center field for a 4-0 lead.

The Salisbury power bats came alive in the late innings with Cat Ramagnano hitting a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth before Fraley hit a two-run shot moments later.

Junior pitcher Shannon Powell protected the lead, going the distance, scattering just five Spartan hits over her five innings, giving up a run in the top of the fifth to cut the Salisbury lead to 7-1, but she struck out three to pick up her ninth win of the year.

Salisbury closed out the win in the bottom of the fifth getting two runners on base before Ramagnano blasted her second home run of the day – a three-run shot – to end the game.

Game 2: Salisbury 14, York 6 (5 inn.)

The second game became a slugfest following a scoreless first inning, with the teams combining for 20 runs and 20 hits in the game.

The Spartans got the game's first run in the top of the second inning but Salisbury (22-10, 9-3 CAC) answered with a three-run home from by Amelia Trotter.

York (21-12-1, 7-5 CAC) got a grand slam in the third inning to retake the lead, ahead 5-3, but that advantage lasted only until the home half of the inning with Salisbury getting all four runs back on four hits and a Spartan error. Bishop's two-run double highlighted the inning, while Sami Mumford had an RBI double in the frame.

York put one more run on the board, but Salisbury scored seven in the bottom of the fifth on five hits. Collins drove in two with her single and Fraley sent two more home on a double to right-center field.

In the two games, Collins had five hits and scored five times while Fraley and Yanarella each had four hits and Fraley drove in five.

Powell earned the win in the second game, working 2 2/3 innings in relief, giving up just one hit and striking out a pair.

The Sea Gulls return to action on Saturday, April 21, hosting Penn State University-Harrisburg in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Prior to the start of Saturday's doubleheader, the Sea Gulls will honor their four seniors.

As the No. 2 seed in the CAC tournament, Salisbury has secured a hosting assignment next weekend, with the No. 3 and the No. 5 seeds in the six-team event coming to Salisbury on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28.
