Men's lacrosse pushes win streak to seven, Moroney nets career-high six goals

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 7 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team picked up its seventh-straight victory on Saturday afternoon defeating visiting Frostburg State University, 17-2.

The Sea Gulls (13-3, 6-1 CAC) used a 16-0 goal run to earn the victory including 10 straight goals in the first half. Griffin Moroney played an integral part in the first half goal run and game overall, netting a team-high five first half goals and six for the game.

Moroney's six goals and seven points are new season and career-highs for him, passing his previous marks of four goals and six points, which he set just seven days ago against the University of Mary Washington.

After Frostburg St. (9-8, 4-4 CAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 7:02 mark of the first quarter, Moroney netted the first two Sea Gull goals of the day to give the home squad a lead it wouldn't relinquish the rest of the afternoon. During the first half scoring run five different players netted markers, including Corey Gwin, Pierre Armstrong, and Garrett Reynolds, who all finished the day with two goals apiece.

Reynolds found the net twice in the opening half while Gwin and Armstrong each tallied a marker in both the first and second halves. Overall, nine different members of the maroon and gold recorded a marker capped off by Ryan Brown, who netted the second goal of his collegiate career and first since March 7 in the Sea Gulls 20-2 victory over Kenyon College.

The defense turned in another solid performance causing 11 turnovers while forcing 20 for the afternoon. Kevin Murphy led the unit with a team-best five caused turnovers while scooping up another team-high six groundballs. Kyle Tucker finished his afternoon with two caused turnovers and two groundballs.

After the Bobcats netted the opening goal of the game the defense held the visitors scoreless for nearly 38 minutes of game time. Brandon Warren picked up his 10th win of the season, making four saves for the day, while Anthony Stavrakis, Chandler Dabbs, and Kyle O'Neil combined to play the final 15 minutes of action, recording three saves.

Salisbury returns to action on Tuesday, April 24 when it concludes its regular season against St. Mary's College of Maryland. Face-off between the Sea Gulls and Seahawks is scheduled for 7 p.m.
