Sea Gulls hold off Saints for sixth straight win

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Salisbury University baseball team held on to defeat Capital Athletic Conference opponent Marymount (Va.) University on Thursday afternoon at Bishop O'Connell High School Baseball Stadium, 7-6.

The Sea Gulls (16-7, 5-2 CAC) extended their win streak to six games with the victory over the Saints (12-11, 4-3 CAC). The first run of the game was scored in the bottom of the second inning by Marymount, marking the first time during the current streak that Salisbury hasn't been the first team to score.

The maroon and gold took the lead in the top of the forth inning on back-to-back bases-loaded walks. Colby Dean drew the first walk to score Jack Barry before Matt Padeway's walk brought home Scott Ardoin to bring the score line to 2-1.

The score would even up 2-2 in the bottom half of the fourth inning before the Sea Gulls could claim the lead for good in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Jay Perry to score Brad Keith. Keith would drive in two more runs in the sixth inning on a single through the right side of the infield before scoring once again on an Ardoin single up the middle.

Down two runs in the ninth inning, the Saints looked ready to stage a small rally, but could only get one run to cross home plate before the Sea Gulls were able to shut the door for the 7-6 win.

Starting Pitcher Austin Heenan picked up his fifth win of the season, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out seven batters over six innings. Connor Reeves picked up the save while striking out one batter and allowing only one run through three innings.

The team continues its road trip on Friday, April 6 when it travels to St. Mary's College of Maryland for a conference doubleheader. Game one is set to begin at 12 p.m.
