BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams came out strong in the opening match, with the Seahawks holding on to a slim 7-5 lead in the early going. The Sea Gulls hung tough, however, eventually pulling ahead, 13-12 on a successful shared block by freshmen Jenna Feinauer and Blair Pausic. The sides continued to pass the lead back-and-forth until a four-point Salisbury run put the Sea Gulls ahead late, 23-18. Salisbury held on to take the first set, 25-21.
  • A 10-3 Salisbury run to open the second set gave the Sea Gulls some comfortable space, but the Seahawks quickly closed the gap with a 5-2 run to trail 12-8. Another 6-1 run by Salisbury opened it back up to 19-8 before late Seahawk push closed it back to 18-13, but it was the closest St. Mary's could get as Salisbury eventually closed out the set, 25-17 to go up 2-0 in sets.
  • Salisbury closed out the match with its best set of the afternoon. The Sea Gulls opened with a quick 7-1 run before the Seahawks tallied four points in a row and six of the next seven to shrink the gap to 8-7. However, an 11-4 Salisbury run pushed the lead to 19-11 and the maroon and gold never looked back, eventually closing the set 25-15 to earn the 3-0 sweep.
