No. 10 Football runs through CNU, 51-0

SALISBURY, Md. – The 10th-ranked Salisbury University football team rolled on Senior Day to a 51-0 shutout victory over their New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) foes, the Christopher Newport Captains on Saturday in their final regular season game at Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

First Quarter

  • Salisbury fumbled on the first possession of the game to put CNU on the Salisbury side of the 50-yard line, the Salisbury defense stood tall to force a three-and-out to keep the game scoreless.
  • A Chris Clark 12-yard punt return set up Salisbury on the CNU 40-yard line. The Sea Gulls would get into the CNU red zone, Bert Schrecongost would put the opening points on the board as the quarter clock expired on a 32-yard field goal.

Second Quarter

  • After starting their second drive of the second quarter on their own 17, Salisbury drove down the field 83 yards and Mike-Ryan Mofor capped off the drive with a three-yard run for Salisbury's first touchdown of the game.
  • It took two plays on Salisbury's ensuing drive to score a touchdown as Jack Lanham found Chad Gleason on a post pattern for a 70-yard connection.
  • Another good punt return by Clark would put the Sea Gulls on the CNU side of the field on their next possession. After two pass plays by Lanham to Lenard Prue for 30 yards and Octavion Wilson for eight yards, Lanham would keep it himself for a five-yard touchdown scamper to put Salisbury up 24-0 at the halftime break.

Third Quarter

  • The running game was the driving force on the opening possession of the second half for Salisbury. After a Mofor run, Lanham would take the option play 38 yards to the house.
  • CNU was driving down the field on their first drive of the second half but Jack Anderson overthrew his receiver and was intercepted by Jamarkus Brumskin.
  • Four plays after interception, Mofor notched his second score of the game as powered through the end zone on a 12-yard score.
  • Anderson was pulled from the game for Xander Jedlick but two plays into his day, Jedlick picked off by Sean Carroll and Carroll returned the interception 30 yards for the touchdown.
  • CNU's third consecutive drive of the third quarter ended in an interception as Joseph Manso reeled in a failed throw away by Jedlick and brought back 59 yards deep into CNU territory.
  • A play later, Hopeton Mair tallied Salisbury's final touchdown of the game on an 11-yard carry to put Salisbury up 51-0 with four minutes left in the quarter.

GAME NOTES

  • Salisbury notched 598 yards of total offense, compared to CNU's 155.
  • Salisbury recorded 395 rushing yards and 203 passing yards.
  • CNU was held to 105 passing yards and 50 rushing yards
  • CNU did not record a third-down conversion (0-14) in the game.
  • Jack Lanham totaled 334 yards on the day. Lanham went 8-for-13 for 195 yards, a passing touchdown and an interception. On the ground, Lanham registered a game-high 139 yards on 14 carries and two scores.
  • Mike-Ryan Mofor also scored two rushing touchdowns on nine carries and 62 yards.
  • Chad Gleason caught two passes from Lanham for 102 yards and a touchdown.
  • Lenard Prue reeled in three passes for 53 yards.
  • Joseph Manso paced the Salisbury defense with eight tackles, an interception and a tackle for loss.
  • Patrick Bernardo notched seven tackles and a tackle for loss.
  • Matthew McFarland, Noah Zentz and Austin Farinholt each recorded a sack on the CNU quarterbacks.
  • Sean Carroll and Jamarkus Brumskin joined Manso in securing an interception.
  • Bert Schrecongost hit a 32-yard field goal and went 6-for-7 in PATs.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Patrick Bernardo passed Chris Everett '12 for 10th on the all-time tackles list with 241 career tackles.
  • Prior to the game, Salisbury honored their 19 graduating seniors.
