Box Score 2 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University volleyball team split its final two matches of the regular season on Saturday, falling the Virginia Wesleyan, 3-1 in the first match of the day, then came back to beat Averett, 3-2 in match two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Salisbury vs. Va. Wesleyan
- Salisbury dropped six of the first eight points to Va. Wesleyan to open the first set but battled back to tie things up at 10-10 and eventually move in front, 15-12. However, the Marlins fired up a late rally to score 13 of the final 16 points and take the set, 25-18.
- The Marlins rode their momentum into the second set, tallying 11 of the first 14 points to take a commanding 11-3 lead. The Sea Gulls managed to cut their deficit to 16-11 but the Marlins scored nine of the final 13 points to take the set 25-15.
- Salisbury turned the tables in the third set, scoring 10 of the first 12 points to take a comfortable 10-2 lead. Another late push by the Marlins pulled the team ahead, 23-22, but the Sea Gulls managed to score the final three points to take the set, 25-23 and force a fourth.
- The fourth set looked to be a real battle from the beginning as the Marlins took a slight edge, 9-8. However, the wheels began to fall off for Salisbury from that point forward as Va. Wesleyan scored nine of the next 10 points to go up 18-9. A late push by the Sea Gulls got them back within six, but it wasn't enough as the Marlins closed the set, 25-18 to take the match, 3-1.
