Sea Gulls soar past Avenging Angels, 16-7

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 5 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team used an 8-0 run to defeat Meredith College, 16-7, on Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

The game got off to a tight start as the teams traded goals in the opening 16 minutes, making the score 3-3. Taylor Poore notched her second goal of the game at the 13:24 mark of the first half, starting the 8-0 run for Salisbury (5-1) that spanned both halves.

Courtney Fegan and Gabby Mongno each tallied their second goal of the first half during the run, while Holly Bowers, Lindsey Wagner, and Gianna Demato all added a goal to make the score 9-3 at halftime.

Emma Skoglund then opened the second half with a goal less than a minute in off an assist from Alexis Strobel, who finished with four helpers in the game. Wagner added her second of the night shortly after, running the score to 11-3 before Meredith (6-2) ended the 8-0 run, which lasted 17:45 of game action.

The two teams then exchanged goals before the Sea Gulls went on a 3-0 run to make the score 16-6, including Mongno's third goal of the game. She also assisted on a man-down goal by Julie Talbert to give her a team-high four points to go along with Strobel.

The Salisbury defense limited the sixth-highest scoring offense in the country to just seven goals, 12 below their season average. The Sea Gulls forced the Avenging Angels into 21 turnovers, with seven different players causing a turnover, including Kendall Bannan, who added three groundballs.

Skye Graham made six saves and caused one turnover in 51:24 of action to earn the win in net.

Salisbury concludes its three game homestand on Friday, March 15 against Plymouth State University at 1:30 p.m.
