Women's lacrosse picks up 14-7 win against No. 15 Cortland

Box Score

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The No. 5 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team earned a 14-7 victory against No. 15 State University of New York at Cortland on Wednesday afternoon in neutral-site action at Rowan University.

The Sea Gulls (7-1) started strong, taking a 3-1 lead, getting goals from Lindsey Wagner and Taylor Poore before Emma Skoglund ripped a free-position shot from the right side to the top of the goal just before the shot clock expired for a 3-1 lead with less than seven minutes gone in the game.

The Red Dragons (2-3) held Salisbury off the board for the next eight minutes, scoring three of their own to take a 4-3 lead, but it proved to be the only Cortland lead of the game.

Poore's free-position marker tied the game 4-4 near the midway point of the half, sparking a 5-0 run, which included goals from Courtney Fegan, Alexis Strobel, and Gabby Mongno. Cortland scored with just over a minute to play to make the score 8-5 at halftime.

After the Red Dragons scored two quick goals to start the second half, cutting their deficit to 8-7, Salisbury answered with a tally from Fegan. Cutting from the top straight toward the goal, she got a feed from Poore, and deposited the goal into the top-right corner.

After the ensuring draw control by Martha Hutzell, Poore added her third goal of the day, pushing her defender down the left side, and stopping and firing past Cortland goalkeeper Annie Casey to quickly push the lead back to three goals, 10-7.

The two goals started a 6-0 run by Salisbury to close out the game, during which Skoglund and Wagner finished off hat tricks.

To go with her three goals, Wagner added two assists while Strobel assisted on three goals while scoring one.

Skye Graham made seven saves in net to go with nine groundballs to earn the win.

The Sea Gulls return to the field on Monday, March 25 hosting No. 6 Middlebury College at Sea Gull Stadium. That contest will begin at 4 p.m.
