ARLINGTON, Va. – The No. 15 Salisbury University baseball team traveled west for a showdown against Marymount (Va.) University on Wednesday afternoon and came away with a 6-4 victory over the Saints.

Salisbury (21-6-1) jumped out to an early lead in the third inning. Cameron Hyder and Justin Meekins both reached base to kick off the frame. After Jimmy Monaghan advanced the runners with a groundout, Jack Barry smacked the ball to the right side of the infield to score Hyder safely from third and take a 1-0 lead.

Matt Padeway doubled the Sea Gull lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning with a well-executed sacrifice bunt play, scoring Will Gutekunst from third.

The maroon and gold opened its lead to 6-0, adding four more runs in the fifth inning. Both Monaghan and Gutekunst contributed with RBI-singles, while Padeway drove home two more runs with a double to center field.

Marymount (13-14) cut away at its deficit by scoring a run on a double play in the sixth inning, then adding three more in the eighth inning to make things interesting at 6-4.

Clayton Dwyer was able to take the mound in the ninth inning and close out the game, however, for his first save of the season. Zach Amisano (5-0) earned the win with a strong outing, tossing 6 2/3 innings while allowing only one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts.

The team returns home to begin a three-game Capital Athletic Conference weekend series against York College of Pennsylvania beginning Friday, April 12 at 3:45 p.m.
