Adam, Chew notch double-doubles in volleyball's four-set win against Averett

ASHLAND, Va. – Powered by sophomore Amanda Chew's career night, the Salisbury University volleyball team picked up a four-set win over the Averett Cougars to open the Randolph-Macon Invitational on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salisbury dropped the first set against Averett after falling behind early on an 8-3 Averett scoring run. Salisbury climbed back to within two in the first set after a Chloe Adam kill cut the Averett lead to 15-13 but Averett went on another run to claim the set.
  • Salisbury turned up the intensity in the second set. As a team, the Sea Gulls recorded a .625 hitting percentage, tallied 15 kills and did not commit an attack error in the set.
  • Salisbury kept the momentum up in the final two sets with the Sea Gulls hitting .306 and .375 in set three and four respectively to help get the victory.

GAME NOTES

  • Amanda Chew registered her fourth double-double of the season with a career-high 22 kills on 43 swings. Chew added 12 digs and two blocks.
  • Chloe Adam also notched a kill-dig double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs.
  • Claudia Sweitzer recorded 24 assists while Kiana Bopp dished out 18 assists. Bopp dug out nine Averett attacks, a dig away from a double-double.
  • Jenna Feinauer tallied six kills in the win.
  • Hannah Sullivan dropped in five service aces and blocked five attacks.
  • Hailey Dougherty matched a team-high 12 digs on the back row.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Salisbury continued their season-opening five-game winning streak.
  • As a team, Salisbury hit .300. Their highest percentage of the season.
  • Chew's 22 kills bests her previous career-high of 21 kills set at Catholic on Sept. 8, 2018.

  • Salisbury wraps up the Randolph-Macon Invitational on Saturday when they take on the hosts in the first match of the day at 10 a.m. before closing out the tournament against former Capital Athletic Conference member, Marymount at 2 p.m.
