HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salisbury netted the opening basket of the game on a jump shot by Gary Briddell. Following that basket, CNU went on an 11-3 run that stretched the first media timeout of the game to five the Captains the 11-5 lead five minutes into the contest.
  • The Captains got out to their largest lead of the half, 29-15, with just over five minutes left in the first half when Jason Aigner made a three-pointer after a Mike Ward block.
  • Salisbury would trim the lead to single digits, 29-22, behind a 7-0 run that extended to the final two minutes of the half. During the run, Ward drained three free-throws following a foul on a three-point attempt. Briddell and D'Angelo Tull followed up with back-to-back baskets on consecutive possessions.
  • CNU would take a 33-24 lead into the half after a jumper by Nick Parks.
  • CNU started the second half hot and took advantage of early foul trouble by Salisbury to jump out to its largest lead of the game, 45-29, five minutes into the final frame.
  • Salisbury wouldn't go away without a fight as the defense buckled down and the offense started to get in form as the Sea Gulls went on a 17-6 run that spanned eight minutes to cut the CNU lead back to five points. The run was capped off by Bryan Boehlert splitting a one-and-one and Briddell converted a mid-range jumper to make it a 51-46 game with 8:08 left in regulation.
  • Salisbury's foul troubles would allow the Captains to start pulling away from the Sea Gulls as CNU pushed its lead back to double digits in the final two and half minutes of the game.
  • A Johnny Fierstein layup, a pair of Tull free throws and a Lucas Martin lay-in would trim the lead back to within six, 65-59 with 35 seconds left in the game but CNU would make its free throws to take the CAC win.
