Dilger, Otlowski record pair of double-doubles as women's basketball cruises past St. Mary's 93-59

MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team defeated Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) opponent St. Mary's College of Maryland for the second time in two weeks on Saturday afternoon, downing the Seahawks 93-59 behind double-doubles from forwards Emily Dilger and Kaylee Otlowski.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salisbury took little time to find its groove offensively, jumping out to an impressive 17-2 lead just five minutes into the first quarter. The run included six points from Lauren Fortescue and an Amber Onyekwere three-pointer with 7:47 remaining in the quarter.
  • The Seahawks picked things up offensively in the final minutes of the quarter, outscoring the Sea Gulls 13-7 and reducing the deficit back to single digits, 24-15, with three quarters to go.
  • Jada Welbon snagged a St. Mary's inbound pass to begin the second quarter before feeding Onyekwere for a layup that kicked off a quick 9-2 run in the first two minutes for a 33-17 Salisbury lead.
  • The Seahawks answered with a 7-0 run of their own to keep themselves in the game at 33-24 with five minutes to go before halftime.
  • Salisbury closed the first half with a 10-7 run to take a 43-31 lead into the locker room.
  • A Dilger layup kicked off the second half just 10 seconds into the third quarter and also spurred an 11-6 Salisbury run that was capped by a Fortescue three-pointer with 6:48 on the clock to extend the lead to 54-37.
  • Things kept clicking for the Sea Gulls as they closed the third quarter with an 18-9 run to lead the Seahawks, 72-46. Dilger led the run with six points while Otlowski contributed four.
  • St. Mary's began the fourth quarter with some momentum, outscoring Salisbury 11-8, yet still trailed 80-57 with only 4:35 remaining in the game.
  • Momentum quickly shifted back to the Sea Gulls, who held the Seahawks to only two more points the rest of the way while scoring 13 more of the own for the 93-59 victory.

GAME NOTES

  • Kaylee Otlowski picked up her ninth double-double of the season behind a game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Emily Dilger also snagged a double-double – her fourth of the year – with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Dilger added two assists and two blocks.
  • Lauren Fortescue also broke double-digits, scoring 14 points while contributing five assists and three rebounds.
  • Amber Onyekwere dished out a team-high six assists while scoring nine points and grabbing four rebounds.
  • Salisbury held St. Mary's to only 1-for-11 (9.1%) from long-range while converting eight of its 21 three-point attempts (38.1%).
  • The Sea Gulls also outplayed the Seahawks from the field and from the foul line. Salisbury combined the go 33-for-68 (48.5%) from the field and 19-for-23 (82.6%) from the charity stripe, while holding St. Mary's to 20-for-49 (40.8%) and 18-for-26 (69.2%), respectively.
