BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Unlike the first two games of the season, the Salisbury bats were quiet to begin the afternoon against the Mighty Macs. Immaculata starting pitcher Ryan Crowell looked settled in, retiring the first six batters he faced.
  • Crowell's momentum came to an abrupt halt, however, with batter number seven. Brandon Bonesteel settled on the first pitch he saw and sent a solo shot over the right field wall in the bottom of the third inning to put the Sea Gulls ahead, 1-0.
  • Jimmy Monaghan doubled Salisbury's lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning. With one out and a runner at second, Monaghan drilled a liner over the head over the Mighty Macs right fielder, scoring Justin Meekins. Monaghan tried to turn his double into a triple, but the ball beat him to third base and he was tagged for the second out.
  • A pair of RBI doubles in the sixth inning by Christian Murphy and Stephan Rice doubled the lead once again, making it 4-0 Salisbury.
  • The game remained within reach for the Mighty Macs as the innings grew late but that all changed in the bottom of the eighth inning when Salisbury brought 11 batters to the plate. The maroon and gold plated seven runs, including a Cameron Hyder RBI triple and a two-RBI single by Nate Yoder in his second at-bat of the inning.
  • Immaculata was unable to snap the shutout in its final attempts in the ninth as Salisbury picked up the 11-0 victory.

GAME NOTES

  • Jackson Balzan (1-0) picked up his first victory of his college career, tossing six full innings while striking out an impressive 11 batters in the process. The southpaw allowed only two walks and one hit in the process.
  • Brandon Bonesteel went 2-for-4 at the plate, including a solo home run in the third inning and an RBI single in the eighth.
  • Brad Haas also picked up two hits in five at-bats, including an RBI single, a walk, and a run scored.
