SALISBURY, Md – The fourth-seeded Salisbury University women's soccer team fought to the end but was upended, 2-0, in the semifinals of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Championship Tournament to the top-seeded and fifth-ranked Christopher Newport Captains on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Salisbury looked to get on the board early on with Autumn Dougherty with a run along the sideline. But, a tackle on the breakaway just outside the box forced a corner and the CNU defense kept the game scoreless.
• The majority of the first half was highlighted by both teams' defenses until the 34th minute. Emily Talotta drew a hard foul in the box and proceeded to knock in the penalty kick to give CNU the 1-0 advantage.
• The Sea Gulls battled in the second half with great defensive plays with goalkeeper Emma Hill recording six saves in the half. Their best opportunity came in the 62nd minute when Kyla Holt ripped a shot from just outside the box, but a diving Haley Eiser stopped the shot from going in.
• The Captains second goal came in the 75th minute when Talotta found a streaking Emma Ricci in the box. who knocked the ball past the outstretched hands of Hill to give the match its final score, 2-0.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

• Emma Hill recorded six saves in goal. She finishes her career with 153 saves, which puts her fourth all-time in program history.
• Autumn Dougherty, Kyla Holt and Kasey Lamb each had shots on target.

CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT GAME NOTES

• Emily Talotta scored a goal and recorded an assist.
• Riley Cook paced the offense with seven shots. Three of Cook's shots were on target.
• Hailey Eiser recorded three saves in goal and earned the shutout.

THE WRAP

• Salisbury finishes the 2021 season with a 6-11-2 overall record and a 0-4 record in conference play.
