Men's Basketball rolls to 78-60 victory over Lancaster Bible

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team cruised to a 78-60 victory on Friday over the Lancaster Bible Chargers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams struggled to hit their shots in the early going. Salisbury managed to find its footing in the middle parts of the first but when Johnny Fierstein made a driving layup on a pick-and-roll play, it gave SU a 27-17 lead over LBC with just over 5:30 left in the first half.
  • After Lancaster Bible answered on the other end with a three, Salisbury got out on a 15-5 run which was highlighted by back-to-back threes by Gary Briddell and Jordan Oates to push the lead up to 42-26 heading to halftime.
  • The run continued through the start of the second half as Oates opened the half with back-to-back threes to stretch the Salisbury lead out to 48-26 two minutes into the stanza.
  • The Salisbury lead grew to as much as 27 points in the final frame as SU capped off its long flurry with a pair of Oates free throws to push the advantage up to 63-36 with 8:41 left in the game.
  • Buckets in the final three minutes of the game by Jeb Williams and Davion Ralph helped the Sea Gulls close out the Chargers.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Jordan Oates led all scorers with a season-high 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting, 6-of-9 from beyond the three-point arc and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.
  • Jasiah Perry and Gary Briddell each registered with double figures with 12 points apiece. Perry tied a game-high with eight rebounds while Briddell notched four boards, two assists and two steals.
  • Johnny Fierstein corralled eight rebounds along with seven points and five assists.
  • Off the bench, Paul Garcia netted nine points on four field goals.
  • Brandon Craig chipped in with four rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals.
  • Ryan Marshall pulled down five rebounds.
  • Salisbury shot 43.1 percent (28-65) from the field and 39.3 percent (11-28) from three.
  • Salisbury controlled the rim with eight blocks.

LANCASTER BIBLE GAME NOTES

  • 16 different Chargers saw time in the game.
  • Lancaster Bible tallied 42 bench points, led by Grant Sareyka and Jordan Praylow who each tallied nine points.
  • Lancaster Bible and Salisbury were tied in the rebounding category with 41 boards.
  • The Chargers were held to 33.3 percent (20-60) shooting.

  • The two teams will finish their season series tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Maggs Physical Activities Center
  • Before the game, Salisbury will recognize seniors Gary Briddell and Johnny Fierstein for Senior Day.
  • The contest on Saturday will be Salisbury's last countable contest of the 2021 season.
