No. 7 Women's Lacrosse cruises to 13-6 win over Washington in home opener

SALISBURY, Md.- In its 2021 home opener, the No. 7 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team cruised to a 13-6 victory over the Washington Shorewomen on Saturday to extend its season-opening win streak to three games.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salisbury quickly got the scoring started with a seven-goal explosion with goals coming from Julie Talbert, Alexis Strobel  Lydia McNultyDelaney HillLily CavallaroErin Scannell and Leah Vilov.
  • Washington answered the SU run with back-to-back goals from Molly Sharpe and Ashley Devlin to shrink the Salisbury lead, 7-2.
  • Salisbury and Washington exchanged a pair of goals starting with a Talbert tally from a Strobel pass. 
  • Less than a minute later, Sydney Allender would score her first goal of the day for the Shorewomen from a Morgan Sutherland pass to cut the lead, 8-3.
  • McNulty would answer the Allender goal with her second of the game to extend the Sea Gull lead with 7:51 remaining in the first. 
  • Washington ended the half with its fourth goal of the game coming from Colleen Keefe to make the score 9-4 going into halftime. 
  • Five minutes into the second half, Washington found the back of the net first with another goal from Keefe
  • Salisbury answered back four minutes later as Talbert completed the hat trick to extend the lead by five, 10-5. 
  • Riley Hartman scored on a man-up free position opportunity to extend the Sea Gull lead, 11-5.
  • Scannell and Talbert scored the final two goals for the Sea Gulls scoring to help secure the Sea Gull victory with 5:47 left in the game. 
  • Washington's Olivia Miller scored the final goal of the game from a Sutherland pass to make the final score 13-6 in favor of Salisbury.

  • Colleen Keefe scored a team-high two goals 
  • Abby Laubach and Anna Bennett both corralled four draw controls 
  • Catherine Keirn led the team with two ground balls
  • Sydney Wingate recorded five saves for the Shorewomen
  • Washington College won the battle in the draw circle, 12-9

UP NEXT

  • Salisbury will return home Saturday, March 13 to open up Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference play against St. Mary's (Md.) 
  • The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
