McNulty, Valenti notch five goals apiece in 17-8 win over No. 25 Roanoke

SALISBURY, Md. - The third-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season with a perfect 13-0 record with a 17-8 victory over the 25th-ranked Roanoke Maroons on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Roanoke's Emerson Foster scored two goals in a row to give the Maroon's the early 2-0 lead. 

  • Salisbury answered the pair of Foster goals with a five-goal run with tallies from Julie Talbert, Alexis Strobel, Riley Hartman, Lauren Valenti and Erin Scannell to give the Sea Gulls a three-goal lead, 5-2. 

  • Foster completed the first-half hat trick as she ended the Salisbury run with a free position goal to bring the score within two, 5-3, with 10:28 remaining in the half. 

  • To answer the Foster goal, Valenti netted two goals to complete the hat trick both off assists from Strobel.

  • Ellie Armstrong scored the final Roanoke goal of the half off a free position shot to bring the score within three, 7-4. 

  • Talbert, Valenti and Lydia McNulty rounded out the first-half scoring with strikes to extend the Salisbury lead 10-4 going into the second half. 

  • Two minutes into the second half, Lilly Blair scored off a pass from Molly Kasemeyer to cut the Sea Gull lead to 10-5. 

  • Valenti and Scannell scored for the Sea Gulls to push the lead to 11-5 seven minutes into the second half.

  • Foster and Blair tallied two consecutive goals to end the Roanoke scoring with 16:40 remaining in the game. 

  • Salisbury secured the win with a six-goal flurry to close out the win. McNulty scored four of the last six goals of the game, including three consecutive goals in a span of two and a half minutes.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Lauren Valenti and Lydia McNulty led the Sea Gull offense with five goals each. 

  • Alexis Strobel and McNulty both tallied a game-high six points. 

  • Carrie Hesen and Valenti each won a team-high five draw controls. 

  • Delaney Hill and Kate Lamberti paced the Sea Gull defense with three caused turnovers each. 

  • Mary Claire Hisle recorded four saves in the net while also picking up three ground balls.

  • Salisbury edged Roanoke in 14-13 draw controls and 19-13 in ground balls

ROANOKE GAME NOTES

  • Emerson Foster scored a team-high four goals for Roanoke. 

  • Lilly Blair, Nicole Harrison and Foster all picked up three draw controls. 

  • Natalie Mason scooped up a team-high three ground balls 

  • Caryl Schoudel recorded eight saves and three ground balls for Roanoke. 

UP NEXT

  • As the No. 1 seed in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Tournament, Salisbury will host the No. 4 seed St. Mary's Seahawks conference semifinals on Wednesday, April 28.

  • The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
