FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University volleyball team endured a pair of weekend setbacks, falling to the Ithaca Bombers, 3-2 (17-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-7), and the Mary Washington Eagles, 3-1 (25-16, 25-15, 22-25, 25-20), on Saturday afternoon at Ron Rosner Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. ITHACA
- Tied 8-8 early in the first set, the Sea Gulls netted three in a row on kills from Jackie Mitchell and Amanda Chew and a ballhandling error to go up 11-8.
- Neither side could string together more than two points in a row until the 19-17 mark, at which point SU closed out the fixture with a 6-0 run. Chew and Jenna Feinauer each netted two kills over the run, and Brooke Young's service ace finished the job, 25-17.
- Salisbury rolled its momentum into the second set, opening with a 7-1 push. Young dealt a pair of aces and Angelina Casserly landed two kills during the run.
- After SU opened up a 10-3 lead, the Bombers rallied for five straight, capped by a Jennifer Pitts block that closed the gap to 10-8. Ithaca immediately gave three points back on three straight errors, then a block from Young and Gwen Eustace boosted the Sea Gull lead back to 14-8.
- Up 16-12 later on, SU used two errors and a Chew kill to build the advantage to 19-12. The Bombers rallied late and got as close as 22-19, but SU netted three of the next four points, using another Chew kill to put the set on ice, 25-20.
- Salisbury erased a 5-1 hole early in the third set, eventually stringing together a four-point push on the back of two Mitchell blocks and a kill that knotted things at 7-7.
- Down 15-13 later on, the Bombers went on a seven-point tear, highlighted by two kills and a solo block from Ella Graper, to take a 20-15 lead. The Sea Gulls regrouped for four of the next five, using kills from Eustace and Mitchell to get back within 21-19.
- The teams then traded the next seven points, with Ithaca salting away a 25-22 set victory on a service error.
- Each team went on multi-point swings early in the fourth set, with Salisbury using a three-point push on kills from Feinauer, Casserly and Chew to take an 8-6 lead. From there the Bombers netted four straight, capped by a Grace Isaksen ace to go up 10-8.
- The Sea Gulls kept pace until the 12-11 mark, at which point Ithaca rattled off five in a row to push the lead to 17-11. Salisbury never got closer than four the rest of the set, and the Bombers closed out the fourth with a 4-1 run to take the fourth, 25-18, and force a decisive fifth.
- The Bombers stormed out of the gate to open the fifth set, going on a 7-1 run that ended with an exclamation point ace from Elli Gaskill.
- After Salisbury netted three in a row to get within 7-4, Ithaca clocked in the next six to make it 13-4. Alexandra Montgomery's kill moments later finished off the comeback win for the Bombers, 15-7.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
- Amanda Chew led the Sea Gulls both offensively and defensively, clocking in 18 kills and a career-high 27 digs. The double-double was her fourth straight.
- Jackie Mitchell powered down 10 kills, plus eight digs and three blocks (one solo).
- Angelina Casserly recorded nine kills, while Jenna Feinauer and Gwen Eustace added eight apiece.
- Brooke Young served up a team-high 27 assists with a season-high 15 digs, good for her first double-double of the season and fourth as a Sea Gull. Young also added three service aces and two kills.
- Blair Pausic chipped in nine assists with 11 digs.
- Grace Rail chased down 18 digs, while Kayla Pedersen added 10 digs, plus three assists and two aces.
- Salisbury notched a .108 hitting percentage in the match, landing 55 kills against 34 errors on 195 swings.
ITHACA GAME NOTES
- Camryn O'Leary paced a balanced Bomber attack with 10 kills, plus five digs.
- Leila Chipepo, Alexandra Montgomery and Jennifer Pitts landed nine kills apiece.
- Peyton Miller notched a team-high 28 assists to go along with seven digs.
- Julia Costa led the Bomber back line with 22 digs, and Amanda Zweifler chipped in 14.
- Ithaca swung .130 and landed 48 kills in the match, including eight kills (.583) in the decisive fifth set.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. MARY WASHINGTON
- After the first set opened tight at 3-3, the Eagles rattled off five points in a row to take an 8-3 lead. Salisbury netted two of the next three but UMW then scored three straight, capped by a Krista Rodgers kill that made it 12-5.
- Trailing by as many as 17-8, the Sea Gulls eventually whittled the deficit down to 21-16. Jenna Feinauer powered down two kills during Salisbury's climb.
- The Eagles then regrouped and put the set to bed with four straight, using a Lauren Foley service ace to finish the job, 25-16.
- Tied 6-6 early in the second set, UMW put together a four-point swing, using a Rodgers-Jordan Lyons block to build a 10-6 advantage. Later on the Eagles surged to build an 11-8 lead to 16-9.
- Salisbury never got closer than six during the rest of the fixture, and UMW's 6-2 run salted it away, 25-15.
- The Sea Gulls brought new energy into the third set, stringing together the first five in a row on a pair of errors and kills from Angelina Casserly, Amanda Chew and Blair Pausic.
- After the Eagles chipped away to make it 12-10, two UMW errors and a Delaney Madsen kill rebuild the SU advantage to 15-10.
- Down 17-12 later on, UMW roared back with six in a row, including back-to-back kills from Rodgers to swing in front 18-17.
- Salisbury rebounded and inched toward the finish line. Down 20-19, a Casserly kill and error seesawed SU ahead 21-20. After UMW got one back, the Sea Gulls eked out two more on a Chew kill and error to make it 23-21. The Eagles got one more, but a Madsen block and error gave Salisbury the dramatic win, 25-22, to keep the match alive.
- After the Eagles came out swinging and took a 5-0 lead to open the fourth set, Salisbury rebounded and used its own six-point swing to go in front 10-9. Madsen landed two kills and Chew powered down a kill and an ace during the flourish.
- The teams traded points over the middle portion of the frame, with SU nudging ahead 17-15 on back-to-back Brooke Young aces. From there UMW netted five straight and eight of the next nine, capped by a Lyons kill that made it 23-18 Eagles.
- Mitchell powered down back-to-back kills as part of a last gasp, but two straight errors allowed the Eagles to finish the job, 25-20.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
- Amanda Chew's 13 kills led the way for the Sea Gulls up front. Chew also notched 19 digs, giving her a fifth straight double-double, 12th this season and 38th of her career.
- Angelina Casserly and Jackie Mitchell each landed six kills, while Jenna Feinauer added five.
- Brooke Young notched her second double-double of the afternoon, serving up 22 assists and 14 digs, plus three service aces. Blair Pausic added 12 assists of her own.
- Grace Rail led the back line with 26 digs, and Natalie Uibel chased down 11.
- Salisbury landed 43 kills on 177 swings in the match, good for a .090 hitting percentage.
MARY WASHINGTON GAME NOTES
- Jordan Lyons put up strong all-around numbers to lead the Eagles, smashing 18 kills with 21 digs.
- Chloe Crosen blasted 14 kills on a .444 swing percentage. Sarah Moore registered 10 kills with 20 digs, and Krista Rodgers added 10 kills of her own.
- Lauren Foley posted 24 assists with 11 digs, while Brenna Campbell chipped in 22 assists.
- Hanna Livermon chased down a team-high 28 digs.
- UMW swung .230 for the match, landing 57 kills.

- The Sea Gulls return to Maggs Physical Activities Center for their final two home games of the season, starting on Tuesday night against Marymount (Va.).
