The Rundown

The top-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team looks to capture its fourth consecutive conference crown as it hosts the second-seed and 17th-ranked Christopher Newport Captains on Saturday, Nov. 5. The Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Championship is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Sea Gull Stadium.

  • No. 1 Salisbury finished the regular season 16-0 and swept CNU and Mary Washington to earn the top seed in the tournament.
  • Salisbury is one of two undefeated teams in all of NCAA Field Hockey. Division I, North Carolina, also finished the regular season undefeated at 15-0.
  • The Sea Gulls collected three C2C major awards. Allie Davis was honored as the C2C Player of the Year. McKenna Horner was tabbed as the C2C Rookie of the Year. Head coach Dawn Chamberlin and her staff were picked as the C2C Coaching Staff of the Year.
  • Davis, Horner, McKenzie Mitchell, Mack Dinopoulos, Christine Goetz, Molly Reardon, Isabel Larrabee and Mackenzie Peacock each earned spots on the All-C2C First Team.
  • No. 17 CNU enters Saturday's game with a 14-4 record and split its conference schedule with a win over Mary Washington and dropping its game against Salisbury.
  • In the C2C Semifinal, CNU rolled through Mary Washington, 6-2, to advance to the final. Abby Asuncion scored a hat trick and notched two assists to lead the Captains.
  • CNU picked up two of the C2C major awards after the regular season. Asuncion was named the C2C Scholar-Athlete of the Year while Brooke Billhimer was selected as the C2C Defensive Player of the Year.
  • Asuncion, Billhimer, Lily Kerr, Emma Logue, Alexis Morales and Marcella Sabbagh were picked for the All-C2C First Team.
  • Saturday's contest will be the 30th meeting all-time between the two conference rivals. Salisbury holds the 23-6 series advantage over CNU with the Sea Gulls beating the Captains, 1-0, during the regular season meeting on Oct. 26.
  • Allie Davis scored the lone goal in the contest in the 48th minute of the game on an assist from Molly Reardon.
  • The Sea Gulls and the Captains split the two matchups during the 2021 season with CNU winning 1-0 in the regular season meeting on Oct. 27, 2021. Salisbury got the upper hand in the C2C Championship game, 4-1, over CNU on Nov. 6, 2021.
