Women’s Basketball clipped at E’town

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team couldn't keep pace with the Elizabethtown Blue Jays, falling 72-40 on Wednesday night at Thompson Gymnasium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls scored the game's first three points and led 5-2 after two early buckets by Hailey Ader. After the Blue Jays drew even, Abby Wilkinson hit a pair of free throws to put SU back up 7-5 at the 6:17 mark of the first quarter.
  • From there the Blue Jays took control, nudging ahead on a Cyleigh Wilson three-pointer and closing the first on a 14-3 run that gave EC a 19-10 cushion by the end of the period.
  • After giving up the first basket of the second quarter, Salisbury whittled the deficit down to 21-14 on a layup from Ader and an Ashlynn Burrows jumper.
  • E'town soon after rebuilt its lead to double digits and forged ahead by 15, taking a 36-21 lead into halftime on a buzzer-beating layup by Summer McNulty.
  • Kolby Brown netted two baskets to open the third quarter and get Salisbury within 36-25, setting the tone for a period that saw the Sea Gulls keep pace with the Blue Jays. EC outscored SU just 16-14 in the third, with a late jumper from Alex Bull pulling the visitors within 52-35 at the end of the quarter.
  • The Blue Jays opened the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run and soon put the game away for good. EC held a lead as large as 34 before a Kayla Nieberlein bucket with two minutes to go gave the game its final 72-40 margin.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Hailey Ader led the Sea Gulls with a season-high 10 points on 5-of-14 shooting. Ader also approached a double-double with eight rebounds.
  • Abby Wilkinson netted eight points to go along with four rebounds and two assists.
  • Ashlynn Burrows chipped in seven points, while Alex Bull went for six points off the bench.
  • Salisbury shot 27.9 percent (17-of-61) from the floor, making just one three-pointer on eight attempts, and went 5-of-11 (45.5 percent) from the free throw line.
ELIZABETHTOWN GAME NOTES
  • DaniRae Renno narrowly missed a double-double with a game-high 19 points (8-of-16) and nine rebounds.
  • Summer McNulty netted 14 points (6-of-14).
  • Jessica King went for eight points and six boards, while Cass Peris scored six points and hauled in a game-high 13 rebounds off the bench.
  • The Blue Jays connected on 38.5 percent (25-of-65) of their field goal attempts and went 19-of-26 (73.1 percent) from the charity stripe.
  • E'town outrebounded Salisbury 54-35 and hauled in 20 offensive rebounds to SU's 13 boards.
  • EC swiped 13 steals, including four from Lindsay Boyd.

  • The Sea Gulls continue their road swing with a visit to Lebanon Valley on Saturday afternoon.
