Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball falls short against Neumann, 71-66

ASTON, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team fell just short of a last-minute comeback, 71-66, on the road against the Neumann Knights on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With the game tied at 13, Neumann went on a quick 7-2 run to up 20-15 with just under seven minutes left in the first half.
  • Salisbury responded with an 8-2 run of their own, capped off by an Andrew Silver jumper, to go up 23-22 with 4:33 on the clock.
  • Both teams added a few more scores, but Brendan Davis knocked down a free throw in the waning moments of the half to give the Sea Gulls a 28-27 lead heading into halftime.
  • Brandon Craig made a layup and a drilled a jumper to put Salisbury ahead, 32-27, early in the second half.
  • The Knights battled back and retook the lead, 37-36, with just under 15 minutes to go.
  • Another made layup by Craig brought Salisbury back to within one, 43-42, but Neumann rattled off a 7-0 run to extend its lead with nine minutes to play.
  • After some more back and forth over the next few minutes, Neumann got out to its largest lead of the day, 61-50, with 4:26 left to play.
  • Salisbury brought the game to within four, 63-59, after Greg Bloodsworth nailed a triple with a minute left on the clock.
  • Moments later, Kaiden Mines hit a three-pointer to bring the Sea Gulls within four again, 68-64.
  • After a missed free throw by Neumann, Bloodsworth drove the lane for a layup to bring Salisbury within three, 69-66, with 16 seconds left on the clock.
  • Justin Smith broke free on the ensuing inbound for the Knights and made a layup to the put the game out of reach for the Sea Gulls and the game ended with a final score of 71-66.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Salisbury shot 40 percent (26-for-65) from the field.
  • Brandon Craig led the Sea Gulls with 18 points on 8-for-13 shooting and grabbed six boards.
  • Ryan Marshall scored 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds off the bench.
  • Greg Bloodsworth scored 12 points and had six rebounds.
  • Cameron Heard dished out a career-high nine assists along with seven points, four rebounds and two steals.
NEUMANN GAME NOTES
  • Neumann shot 49 percent (24-for-49) from the field.
  • Jalen Vaughns scored a game-high 28 points on 11-for-18 shooting and grabbed nine boards.
  • Kyle Thompson scored 14 points off the bench.
  • Ryan Starr grabbed nine rebounds and dished out six assists.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury continues its road trip against Penn State Abington on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
  • Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Abington, Pa.
