Strong second-half pushes No. 1 Men's Lacrosse past Colorado College, 17-8

SALISBURY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse used a four-goal run in the third quarter to pull away from the Colorado College Tigers and score a 17-8 win on Sunday to improve to 9-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Colorado scored first in the opening minute of the game but Salisbury responded with a four-goal run sparked by Isaac Thrasher and Brice Bromwell's unassisted goals a minute apart that gave Salisbury the 4-1 lead after the first quarter.
  • After a Tiger penalty closed out the first, the Sea Gulls started the second quarter with a man-up goal by Joe Carozza from Cross Ferrara that extended the Sea Gull lead to four, 5-1, in the early part of the second.
  • Colorado answered with a four-goal run of its own in the middle of the second to tie the game at five.
  • The Sea Gulls ended the half with two big goals from Jarrett Bromwell and Logan Posner that gave the Sea Gulls a 7-5 lead at the break.
  • The Sea Gulls rode the momentum from the goals that ended the first half with a four-goal run in the third quarter to push its lead to 11-6. The run started with another goal from Jarrett Bromwell and ended with a goal from Posner. 
  • A Dylan Brown goal from Colorado cut the lead to 11-6 in the 43rd minute before Salisbury got out on a three-goal run to start the third quarter and extended its lead to 14-6. The run was highlighted by back-to-back Thrasher goals to start the final quarter,
  • After the Tigers sandwiched a Ferrara goal in the middle parts of the fourth, the Sea Gulls put the finishing touches the game in the final three minutes of the game with goals by Ferrara and Jack Dowd.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Cross Ferrara led the Sea Gulls with seven points on five goals and two assists. Ferrara moved to seventh all-time in points scored at Salisbury with 287 points, passing Nathan Blondino with 284 points.
  • Jarrett Bromwell and Logan Posner each finished with six points with two goals and four assists apiece.
  • Isaac Thrasher and Jack Dowd each finished the game with a hat trick.
  • The Sea Gulls went 19-of-28 in faceoffs. Ham McPartland won 13-of-18 faceoffs with 11 ground balls. Eoghan Sweeney added in three faceoff wins with a ground ball.
  • Thomas Ballard, Zack Timmons and Dowd each caused two turnovers.
  • Z.J. Shahin, Posner, and Ballard each scooped up three ground balls
  • Shahin earned the win in net with a career-high 13 saves.  

 

COLORADO COLLEGE GAME NOTES

  • Dylan Wells and Dylan Brown each finished with a hat trick
  • Luka Lietti finished with two points on a goal and an assist.
  • Charlie Harrington won 9-of-22 faceoffs with three ground balls.
  • Ben Bradshaw and Wells tied a team-high with three ground balls.
  • George Schlesinger had a game-high three caused turnovers.
  • Ben Anastos started in net for the Tigers with 15 saves.

  • Salisbury hosts the third of its six-game homestand against the Whittier Poets on Saturday, March 26.
