No 1/2 Men's Lacrosse pushes past No. 16 Stevenson, 15-12

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 1/2 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team used a strong first half to push past rival No. 16 Stevenson, 15-12, on Wednesday night at Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Mustangs started the game on the offensive end with a goal from Shane Ford.
  • The Sea Gulls answered the early Mustang tally as Logan Posner found Jack Dowd for the tying goal. Posner then found Isaac Thrasher to give the Sea Gulls a 2-1 lead.
  • The Mustangs had an answer, though, with two goals from Josh Brannan and Ryan Coleman to give Stevenson a 3-2 lead.
  • The Sea Gulls countered with a man-up goal from Jarrett Bromwell and another Posner-to-Thrasher goal to give the Sea Gulls a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • Salisbury continued its momentum push from the end of the first with a five-goal run to start the second, highlighted by two Cross Ferrara goals, to increase the lead to 9-4.
  • Stevenson finally answered with a second goal of the game from Ford with under a minute to go in the opening half, making the score 9-4 Salisbury at the break.
  • The Sea Gulls came out of halftime on the offensive end with a goal from Ferrara by way of Posner to push their lead back to six at 10-4.
  • The Mustangs answered the Ferrara strike with a goal from Cam Leydig by way of Griffon Gast.  
  • Salisbury pushed its lead back to six as Jarrett Bromwell found his brother Brice Bromwell for a goal to make it 11-5.
  • Stevenson would not go away quietly, countering with a three-goal run highlighted by two Ryan Coleman goals, to get it back to 11-8.
  • A Dowd goal from Posner closed the Sea Gull scoring for the third and made it 12-8, but a Stevenson goal by Jack Scaliti via Coleman cut the Salisbury lead to 12-9 at the end of the third.
  • The Sea Gulls opened the fourth with three straight goals, including one from Brice Bromwell, to push their lead back to six at 15-9.
  • The Mustangs scored the final three goals, including a behind-the-back strike from Josh Brannan, but it was too little, too late and the Sea Gulls walked away with a 15-12 victory.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Jack Dowd and Logan Posner led the Sea Gulls with six points each. Dowd finished the game with three goals and three assists, while Posner dished out six assists.  
  • Jarrett Bromwell finished with five points on three goals and two assists.
  • Cross Ferrara added in four goals, giving him 51 on the season and 234 for his career. Ferrara is now 15 goals shy of Jason Coffman's all-time program record of 249.
  • The Sea Gulls finished 21-of-31 in faceoffs. Ham McPartland went 20-of-28 in faceoffs with a game-high 12 ground balls, while Eoghan Sweeney added in one faceoff win.  
  • John DeFazio led the Sea Gull defense with three caused turnovers.
  • Thomas Ballard and DeFazio scooped up five ground balls each.
  • Z.J. Shahin earned the win in net with eight saves.

 

STEVENSON GAME NOTES

  • Ryan Coleman led the Mustangs with four points, tallying three goals and an assist.
  • Josh Brannan added in a hat-trick with three goals.
  • Nolan Enneguess went 8-of-20 in faceoffs with five ground balls.
  • Cam Leydig scooped up four ground balls.
  • Matt Wilson caused a team-high three turnovers.
  • Marc Poust started in net for the Mustangs and made 14 saves.

UP NEXT

  • The Sea Gulls host their in-state archrival, the Washington College Shoremen, in the "War on the Shore" on Saturday, April 9.
  • The game will serve as the "Lax for Leukemia" fundraiser game, as well as the Salisbury Alumni Game.
  • Opening faceoff from Sea Gull Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with coverage on the Sea Gull Sports Network (SGSN) beginning at 12:45 p.m.
