HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams came out firing on all cylinders in the initial stages of the first quarter. After the Sea Gulls fell behind 4-0, Kaylee Otlowski went on her own 6-2 run, tying it at 6-6. The teams each made a pair of layups on their next possessions, with Kylie Webb and Otlowski tickling the twine to keep it an even 10-10 at the 5:45 mark.
- Salisbury got a defensive stop and Webb converted a layup to give the Sea Gulls their first lead at 12-10. The lead was short-lived as Emily Irwin drained a three-pointer to make it 13-12 BW, but Webb answered with a trey of her own, putting SU back up 15-13 with 4:19 to go.
- After the media timeout, the Yellow Jackets seized the momentum in a big way. Kira Philpot tied it at 15-15 with a pair of free throws, then after a two-way scoreless drought over the next two minutes, Lilly Edwards hit a layup to put BW back up 17-15. Edwards soon followed with two more easy buckets, and Irwin's triple at the buzzer made it a 24-15 BW lead on an 11-0 run to end the first.
- Megan Scheibelhut's layup in the first two minutes of the second quarter pushed the Yellow Jacket run to 13-0 and the lead to 26-15. Abby Wilkinson came off the bench and sparked a mini-run for the Sea Gulls, hitting a pair of buckets in a 7-2 push that got it back to 28-22 at the 5:59 mark.
- BW responded by netting seven of the final nine points to close out the half. Philpot's layup in the final minute gave the Yellow Jackets a 35-24 cushion heading into the break.
- The Sea Gulls played BW even over the first seven minutes of the third quarter. Down 47-30 at the 4:54 mark, Wilkinson and Otlowski hit layups in succession, then Ashlynn Burrows converted a three-point play to get it back to 47-37 with 3:19 to go.
- The Yellow Jackets countered with an 8-2 flourish to close out the third. Edwards scored the next six in a row, including a pair of perfect trips to the free throw line, then after Lauren Fortescue hit a layup for SU, Megan Hensel closed out the period with a layup that pushed the BW advantage to 55-39.
- BW kept control through the middle of the fourth quarter, building the lead as large as 22 after an Irwin and-one made it 64-42 with 4:14 to go.
- The Sea Gulls then went on a 10-0 run to get back within a respectable distance. Otlowski, Emily Dilger and Fortescue each hit buckets, then after a pair of Otlowski free throws Jada Welbon sank a layup that got it back to 64-52 with 1:06 to go.
