Box Score 2 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The second-ranked Salisbury University softball team dropped a road Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) doubleheader to the top-ranked Christopher Newport Captains on Wednesday. Salisbury was on the opposite end of a walk-off in the first game and fell 4-2 in game one before suffering a 10-6 loss in the nightcap to the Captains.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- Salisbury scored first in the bottom of the second. While on third base, Lauren Meyers scored after an errant throw from the CNU catcher.
- The Sea Gulls added another run in the bottom of the third inning, Natalie Paoli hit a fly ball to center that was dropped by the Captains' center fielder allowing Abby Mace to score.
- CNU cut into the Salisbury lead, 2-1, in the sixth inning after Meredith Brickner hit an RBI single.
- The Captains walked off winners in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs and two runners on, Brooke Greaver hit a three-run home run to end the game and give the Captains the 4-2 win.

CNU GAME NOTES – GAME 1
- Caitlin Abernethy went 3-for-4 with a double.
- Brooke Greaver hit the walk-off three-run home run in the seventh.
- Jamie Martin (W, 12-1) struck out eight and allowed six hits and two unearned runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- After a bunt single by Lindsey Windsor, Natalie Paoli launched a two-run bomb over the left-field fence to give Salisbury the 2-0 lead in the first.
- CNU tied the game in the bottom of the third after an RBI single by Caitlin Abernethy and a sacrifice fly by Bailey Roberts.
- CNU tacked on three runs in the Sarah Proctor three-run home run.
- Sydney Duplissey got a hold of the first pitch she saw in the top of the fifth and sent it over the left-field fence to trim the lead to 5-3.
- CNU added a run in the bottom of the fifth and four in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a home run in the fifth by Kaitlyn Hasty and a three-run homer by Roberts in the sixth to give the Captains the 10-3 lead.
- Salisbury didn't go down without a fight as Abby Mace sent a two-run shot flying over the center-field fence. Two batters later, Paoli sent her second home run over the left-field fence to give the game its final margin, 10-6.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES – GAME 2
- Natalie Paoli collected the first multi-homer game of her SU career. She hit 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored.
- Abby Mace hit her 12th home run of the season in the seventh inning and drove in two runs.
- Meghan Reed tallied two hits.
- Sydney Duplissey hit her fourth home run of the season.
- Nicole Ortega (L, 6-2) pitched five innings. She struck out four and allowed eight runs on nine hits.
CNU GAME NOTES – GAME 2
- Natalie Carmichael went 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
- Sarah Proctor, Kaitlyn Hasty and Bailey Robert each hit a home run for the Captains.
- Abby Rochette (W, 5-0) earned the win in five innings of work.
- Jamie Martin (SV, 1) picked up the save.
UP NEXT
- Salisbury is back in action on Sunday, April 24 against Stevenson.
- The doubleheader is set to start at 1 p.m. in Owings Mills, Md.
