No. 2 Women's Lacrosse cruises by St. Mary's, 17-6

SALISBURY, Md. – The second-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team used a pair of long scoring runs to race past the St. Mary's Seahawks. 17-6, on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • St. Mary's struck first after Lily Davidson found the back of the net at the 10:02 mark of the first quarter.
  • Camryn Pepper answered for Salisbury after she picked up an Erin Scannell rebound off the crossbar and one-timed the shot to tie the game at one with just over six minutes left in the first.
  • The Seahawks regained a one-goal lead with just under three minutes to go in the first on a Jayne Barkman goal.
  • Mary Hanzsche found Lydia McNulty breaking for the net to knot the game at two in the closing seconds of the first quarter.
  • The Sea Gulls took the 4-2 lead in the early minutes of the second after Delaney Hill converted a free position shot and Pepper beat her defender to score her second of the day.
  • After another goal by St. Mary's, Salisbury went on a 7-0 run between the second and third quarters highlighted by two goals apiece by Leah Vilov, Scannell and Hill to storm ahead 11-3 in the third.
  • After Barkman stifled Salisbury's run with a goal at the three-minute mark of the third, Salisbury pushed out to its largest lead of the game, 17-4, off a six-goal scoring run capped off by a Lily Cavallaro unassisted goal midway through the fourth.
  • St. Mary's scored two more goals in the waning minutes of the game to give the game it's final score, 17-6.

  • Jayne Barkman and Lily Davison each scored two goals.
  • Maddie Clemmer recorded 12 saves on 29 shots faced.

UP NEXT

  • Salisbury concludes the regular season against Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference rival Christopher Newport on Saturday, April 30 for Senior Day.
  • Game time is set for 12 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium with Senior Day activities set to begin approximately 20 minutes before.
