No. 2 Softball downs Susquehanna, York for 13th straight win

YORK, Pa. – The second-ranked Salisbury University softball team continued its winning ways with a doubleheader sweep on the road over the Susquehanna River Hawks and the York Spartans. Salisbury only allowed one run in each of the wins and picked up a 2-1 win over Susquehanna and a 3-1 victory over York on Sunday to improve to 26-2 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED – SUSQUEHANNA

  • Susquehanna struck first in the second inning when Zoe Bork hit a solo home run to left-center to open the scoring.
  • The Sea Gulls scored both of their runs in the bottom of the third inning. After Abby Mace hit a one-out double and stole third, Lindsey Windsor singled up the middle to score Mace. Windsor then stole second and scored on an RBi single by Maddison Lednum.
  • The River Hawks threatened with a runner in scoring position in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings but Savannah Sheats and Nicole Ortega teamed up to retire the side in those innings with no runs across.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES VS. SUSQUEHANNA

  • Maddison Lednum and Lindsey Windsor each went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
  • Abby Mace tallied Salisbury's other hit with her double in the third.
  • Savannah Sheats (W, 11-1) picked up the win in four innings. She struck out three and gave up four hits, two walks and a run.
  • Nicole Ortega (SV, 1) pitched three innings to earn her first collegiate save.

HOW IT HAPPENED – YORK

  • Carly Galbraith launched a solo home run in the second inning to start the scoring for Salisbury
  • Mace led off the third inning with a double. Windsor brought Mace home with a triple to right. A batter later, Lednum plated Windsor with a single to right to give SU the 3-0 lead.
  • York loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth. Emily Netterville scored Taylor Coon on an RBI groundout. Windsor worked out of the threat with another groundout to end the inning.

UP NEXT

  • Salisbury heads up Rt. 301 to Chestertown to take on the Washington Shorewomen on Tuesday, April 5.
  • The non-conference doubleheader starts at 3 p.m.
