PREVIEW: No. 4 Softball begins regionals on Friday vs. Framingham

SALISBURY, Md. – For the first time since 2015, the Salisbury University softball team and Sea Gull Softball Stadium play host to the NCAA Championship Tournament. On Friday, the fourth-ranked Sea Gulls open their 24th NCAA Tournament against the Framingham State Rams. Salisbury's game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. following the Endicott/Penn State – Berks matchup to open the day at noon.

HOW WE GOT HERE

  • Salisbury finished the 2022 regular season with a 36-6 overall record and earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.
  • The Sea Gulls hold the second-overall seed in this year's tournament.

HOW FRAMINGHAM GOT HERE

  • Framingham upset top-seeded Bridgewater St. to secure the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Tournament Title and the MASCAC's automatic bid into the national playoffs. The Rams finished the season with a 23-17 overall record and 10-4 record in the MASCAC.

HOW ENDICOTT GOT HERE

  • The champions of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), Endicott swept Western New England to capture its third-straight CCC Championship and the automatic bid. Endicott enters the playoffs with a 30-11 record and a 15-3 CCC record.

HOW PENN STATE-BERKS GOT HERE

  • The Penn St.-Berks Lions won the United East Championship and upset Penn College and Penn St.-Harrisburg en route to its seventh conference crown since 2013. The Lions hold a 26-11 overall record and a 21-7 United East record.

WHAT'S ON THE LINE

The winner of the Salisbury/Framingham game faces the winner of the Endicott/Penn St. Berks matchup in Game 3 on Saturday, May 14 at noon. The losers of Friday's game faceoff in the elimination game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The loser of Game 4 takes on the loser of Game 3 at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The regional championship round takes place on Sunday at noon.  The team advancing from each regional will compete in the super regional round on May 20-21.
