No. 4 Softball punches ticket to Super Regionals with 5-2 win over Endicott

SALISBURY, Md. – Facing a 2-0 hole early in the regional championship game, the fourth-ranked Salisbury University softball team powered it way into next week's Super Regional with a 5-2 victory over the Endicott Gulls on the final day of the 2022 NCAA Salisbury Regional.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Endicott scored first in the top of the third inning. After Keelin Spencer singled to left field, Regan Comtois hit a two-run home run to left field to give Endicott the 2-0 lead.
  • Salisbury trimmed the lead in half in the bottom half of the third. Madi Lemon opened the inning with a single and advanced to third on a bunt single by Lindsey Windsor. A delayed steal scored Lemon from third to cut the Endicott lead to 2-1.
  • A leadoff single by Lauren Meyers and a sacrifice bunt by Maddison Lednum led to a Carly Galbraith RBI single that scored the pinch-runner, Sydney Duplissey, from second base in the fourth inning.
  • Two-out magic for Salisbury later in the fourth. Abby Mace took a 3-2 pitch deep over the left-field fence to give the Sea Gulls the 5-2 lead.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Lindsey Windsor collected three hits.
  • Abby Mace hit her 16th home run of the year to push her to second in the nation.
  • Francesca Cuttitta hit a double in the fifth inning.
  • Savannah Sheats pitched a complete game to collect her 16th win of the season. Sheats struck out four and allowed five hits, two runs and a walk.
  • It is the third time in the new tournament format that Salisbury advanced to the Super Regionals (2014, 2015).

ENDICOTT GAME NOTES

  • Raven Comtois drove in the runs on her home run in the third.
  • Salisbury got to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year, Maria Hunchuk, for five runs in 3.2 innings of work.

UP NEXT

  • Salisbury will host the NCAA Super Regional against Mount St. Joseph.
  • The best-of-three Super Regionals begin on Friday, May 20 at 2 p.m.
