Men’s Basketball drops midweek match to Washington Adventist

Box Score TAKOMA PARK, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team dropped its matchup with the Washington Adventist Shock, 83-70, on Wednesday night in Takoma Park, Md.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams traded shots and possessions in the first several minutes of the match.
  • Facing a two-point deficit, 12-10, the Sea Gulls used a 5-0 run capped off by a Buddah Spencer layup to go up 15-12 with just over 11 minutes to play in the first half.
  • Washington Adventist responded with a 12-0 run from four straight three-pointers to go up 24-15 with 8:41 to go in the first half.
  • Greg Bloodsworth knocked down a triple to cap off a 9-2 run for Salisbury to cut into the lead, 26-24, with just under six minutes before halftime.
  • A 10-2 run from the Shock put them up 36-26 with three minutes lefts on the clock.
  • Both teams added a few more baskets in the closing minutes of the half to send the teams into halftime with a score of 40-31.
  • A three-point jump shot from Jordan Oates, followed by a converted three-point play by Brandon Craig cut the lead down to six, 46-40, with just over 17 minutes left to play.
  • Washington Adventist went on a 16-4 run over the next few minutes for its largest lead of the day, 62-44, with 11:28 on the clock.
  • A 7-2 run for Salisbury cut the lead back down to 11, 64-53, with eight minutes to play.
  • The Sea Gulls were able get the lead down to 10, 71-61, after two goo free throws from Sean Carr with four minutes left.
  • Both teams went back and forth over the next few minutes to close out the match, and the game finished with a final score of 83-70.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Salisbury shot 49 percent (24-for-49) from the field, including 41.2 percent (7-for-17) from three-point range.
  • Greg Bloodsworth led the Sea Gulls in scoring with a game-high 19 points. He also dished out three assists.
  • Jordan Oates recorded his fourth straight double-double with 15 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.
  • Brandon Craig added 16 points and five rebounds.
  • Sean Carr chipped in seven points off the bench.
WASHINGTON ADVENTIST GAME NOTES
  • Washington Adventist shot 44.8 percent (30-for-67) from the field, including 37 percent (10-for-27) from deep.
  • Michael Liriano led the Shock in scoring with 18 points.
  • Lavel Harris scored 17 points and dished out eight assists.
  • Derrick Hopkins added 12 points off the bench.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury will hit the road to take on the Apprentice School on Saturday, Jan. 14.
  • Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Newport News, Va.
